BEING A MAMA….

This is my mama. She is a hoot. A good mother. Supportive but not hovering. Available but not under foot. Filled with advise but not judgmental.

I’m sitting with two women that are “doula mamas”. We are talking about the amazing job of being a mother and also being a doula. The work of a doula is simply said, “I rub back, squeeze hips, build confidence and fully support a woman in labor. BUT… I also spend my time during pregnancy as a resource, as a friend, as a mentor as a (fill in the blank).”

A Doula Is – Supportive but not hovering. Available but not under foot. 

I feel like it is my job to “help” and then walk away. No birth trauma for either of us. We work together to build confidence to make good informed decisions.
