Home Birth Doula ~ A January Birth Story

This team of women + my husband was the best birth team I could have ever dreamed up. Each one of them served me in such a special and specific way.

My husband, my rock, @pjackson405 , was intentional, loving, strong and nurturing during my entire birth. He was 100% with me in every way from start to finish. ❤️

My midwife, @margievaughnwallis / Frisco Birth Center , built me up as an empowered woman that no matter how intense things got reminded me to stay quiet in my mind, relaxed in my body and took the very best care of Otto, Peter & I from the start to the end of pregnancy, birth and post partum.

My Doula

@cherylyogini_ombalance , who from the start instantly knew what I needed- words of affirmation, physical touch + love. She was on from the moment she got to our home to the next morning and helped Peter and I in every way possible throughout labor + birth & postpartum; who inevitably helped me ‘surrender’ and lose the control I held onto in order to bring baby Otto earth side.

Each of them helped me in delivering Otto the way I imagined, a peaceful water birth.
A special thank you to Emily Sloan & Melissa Weldon for coming to assist & help with my birth. You are both so amazing! Thank you, thank you, thank you!

Last but certainly not least… our two furry animal family members were labor warriors! Poc, our 11 year old Siberian husky never left my side. She was right there at the tub when I gave birth and she and our kitten, Guillermo, are definitely in love with their new little human.

I’m working on my birth story to share for anybody that may be interested in what a home birth experience was like (for us, anyway).
It’s taken longer than expected because somebody has quite the appetite.

Reflexology Meet Up – Once a Month!

We had a great time at Yaya on Sunday (past) for reflexology. This is going to be a tradition in the new year. I’ve been meeting up with doula clients this year as they get close to their estimated due date. The pictured women to the right continued to come with bebes. SO… it has begun!

Not to be outdone by the amazing (reflexology) service, I decided to treat us all to some holiday cheer.

Pregnant & breastfeeding women like to eat. And I love it! So, pecans to the rescue. A seasonal favorite nut of mine.

SNACKS FOR THE MEET UP

Maple Pecans – Follow this LINK. I had a little bit of the yummy coconut sugary glaze left over so I put on a slice of my fav apple bread toasted. Great with coffee!

Chai Pecan Latte – Steep the chai tea. Add the pecan milk. Enjoy!

Pecan Milk – Follow this LINK. It is incredible easy! Side notes : 1) I strained the milk. 2) Best if made one cup at a time. 3) Make a banana smoothy with the left overs (add the chai tea). Delicious.

Some say that REFLEXOLOGY benefits the breastfeeding woman & could be a natural induction method. I think I agree…

RELAX & LET GO – Sitting in those chairs and letting someone massage and work foot magic allows the body to be at ease.

PRESSURE POINT MASSAGE – There are some good points to push on the feet to encourage ‘let down’ of milk & improve milk production.

MIND / BODY CONNECTION – Now this is my kind of thinking. Relax the body. Relax the mind.

BEING TOGETHER. SUPPORTING EACH OTHER. LIFTING EACH OTHER UP.

When I complete a doula contract, I typically send out an invoice, an evaluation in hopes of getting a doula testimonial, and some various information to guide new couples thru postpartum. Well, my contract is not complete with this mama, but let me share a text that I received from her…

I just keep reliving Tuesday night in my head and even though you weren’t physically there, your words and spirit were definitely a guiding light to us. You motivated me to stay calm and try to relax thru the pain, no matter how great it was. When I would start to get negative about not being able to handle the surges and started to tense up, I would hear your calm voice and Drew would start a light touch massage. I truly felt like you helped Drew and I become the perfect birthing team. Because of everything you taught us, we were never scared thru the laboring process, no matter how erratic it was, because of the knowledge that you empowered us with.

As I stepped out of the car and could feel him crowning, I kept reminding myself of the EMT guide’s words about babies born like that are typically healthy/ low risk situations. *

Things were so crazy Tuesday night that I can’t remember if I expressed my gratitude for everything!

I honestly can say, you helped me achieve my perfect, natural birth that I dreamed of, unique as it may be!

I have a pretty darn good track record for attending births. I actually brag about it! BUT sometimes Calm, Smooth and Easy labor happens. Now, I’m not saying this was easy for mama. It’s still LABOR!

I can’t wait to sit with the couple and combine our timelines.

Alternative Birth Positions

Alternative Birth Positions ~

Would an elephant deliver on her back? NO! So why are we humans told to get in a bed on our backs to welcome our little ones?

I remember taking the Dancing For Birth training years ago. It’s really wonderful! If our community would support dancing, I’d offer the classes again. The DFB founder, Stephanie, talked about standing for delivery – allowing gravity to aid in moving bebe down. This is all true.

Side note…. bebe is going to move down regardless. Well, maybe not if you stand on your head.

There are loads of web pages that offer suggestions for laboring & birth. I found this one on Fit Pregnancy – https://www.fitpregnancy.com/pregnancy/labor-delivery/position-statement. They talk pros & cons. Interesting.
